Library Names Spaces for Two Prominent Local Donors

The Cornelius Public Library today announced that the Meyer Memorial Trust granted $100,000 to the capital campaign. Additionally, the Oregon Community Foundation doubled their $30,000 award from May 2016 to help offset the cost increases resulting from the housing delay and current construction boom.

The 100-person community room will be named for the Walters Family Foundation in honor of Glenn and Viola Walters who established the Walters Nursery in Cornelius in 1948. A donation of $70,000 was made to support this important community gathering center.

A local Farmers Insurance owner and agent, Jeannine Murrell and her partner Pamelajean Myers, also made a donation of $18,000 to fund and name the library’s technology center. Murrell is an active community member, past president of Forest Grove Rotary and former City councilor.

“Access to technology for all our residents is critical for them to be successful in this county,” says Library Director Karen Hill. “Not only will people have free access to desktop computers and printers, but the technology center will also have a laptops and tablets available for checkout, a laptop counter looking out on the courtyard and a business center with specialized software for entrepreneurs.”

Commemorative naming options are still available ranging from $100 photo tiles to $6,000 study rooms to the $48,000 Children’s Learning Center. A catalog of opportunities is available on the Cornelius Library webpage.

The new library is part of the multi-use Cornelius Place, which will house the expanded public library, community convening space and affordable apartments for adults 55 and older.  It is a joint project of the City of Cornelius, BRIDGE Housing and Bienestar.

The Cornelius Library is a member of Washington County Cooperative Library Services.
