Expanded Housing Options are coming to Cornelius

Like many communities across Oregon, Cornelius is experiencing a housing shortage. In response to this housing crisis, the Oregon Legislature passed new rules, which will help cities update their land use rules to allow for more housing options. New options could include smaller, often attached, and more affordable housing than single-family homes.  Specifically, cities like Cornelius will need to allow duplexes, triplexes, quadplexes, townhomes, and cottage cluster housing in every residential zone that allows single-family detached housing.

These new rules will support the City’s efforts to expand housing opportunities for the community, including for multi-generational families, younger residents, and many more! This fall, the City is beginning a project to update rules to allow these housing types. We encourage community members to help shape these new rules so that they best meet the needs of Cornelius. Opportunities will include an online open house, community surveys, and other activities to help you lend your voice to the project. We will continue to provide project updates on this site, through the Cornelius Gazette, and through the help of community partners, such as Centro Cultural. We are eager to embark on this exciting project with the support of our community!
