Rural Driveway Requirements

Cornelius Rural Fire District

(Requirements Based on 1997 Uniform Fire Code)

Section 902.2.2.1 Dimension states: 
Fire apparatus access roads shall have an unobstructed width of not less than 20 feet (6096 mm) and an unobstructed vertical clearance of not less than 13 feet 6 inches (4115 mm)

All brush, low limbs, shrubs, blackberry vines or any other types of vegetation and debris or any other obstruction must be removed from the driveway.  Removal of the debris shall coincide with 1994 Uniform Fire Code.

Section 902.2.2.2 Surface states: 
Fire apparatus access roads shall be designed and maintained to support the imposed loads of fire apparatus and shall be provided with a surface so as to provide all-weather driving capabilities.

Section 902.2.2.3 Turning Radius states: 
The turning radius of a fire apparatus access road shall be as approved by the Fire Chief.

Section 902.2.2.4 Dead-End states: 
Dead-end fire apparatus access roads in excess of 150 feet (45,720 mm) in length shall be provided with approved provisions for the turning around of fire apparatus.
