Volunteers

Residential Fire

Few jobs offer you the opportunity to save a life, but as a volunteer firefighter you could be called upon to do so at a moment's notice.

The men and women who make up the volunteer members serving the City of Cornelius and Cornelius Rural share a common interest -- the desire to help others in need.  Last year Cornelius Fire Department responded to over 2000 emergencies and will help prevent many more.

TRAINING

Because their job is so important, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical responders are expertly trained and properly equipped.  Each potential volunteer candidate must successfully undergo state-certified fire, medical, and hazardous materials training before he or she can become an active member of the department.  Additional training in both fire and medical services is provided at little or no cost to the volunteer.

BENEFITS

Once certified, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical responders are fully equipped with protective clothing and equipment.  They are entitled to benefits through Worker's Compensation and disability insurance.  Other benefits include a secondary insurance above and beyond that of Worker's Compensation, financial incentives for alarm response and training attendance which are provided to compensate the volunteer for their expenses.

SOCIAL OPPORTUNITY

As a volunteer with the Cornelius City/Rural Fire Department you will be eligible to join the Western Washington County Firefighter's Association.   The volunteers are involved in many other activities such as youth sports, National Night Out, and visits to nursing homes.  Belonging to an extended family of firefighters and emergency medical responders offers social rewards not found anywhere else in the community.

NEED

The Cornelius Fire Department volunteers help provide the community with the benefits of full-service fire protection without the costs associated with fully career station.  Because of the growing need for firefighters and emergency medical responders in the department the community needs your help.

If you have the desire to help your community, believe in excellence at performing any job, and consider respect and appreciation reward enough for the job you do, then the members of the Cornelius Fire Department would appreciate your membership as a volunteer firefighter or emergency medical responder.

Volunteers care for all lives.  Take the step and join now.  Cornelius has teamed with Forest Grove to share volunteers.
