Volunteers and Staffing

The Cornelius Fire Department is very proud of it's long tradition of volunteer firefighters.  The Department was established in 1912 and for over 100 years has relied on the volunteer firefighters for staffing.

Currently the Cornelius Fire Department has 6 career staff(3 shift captains, 1 recruitment & retention Lieutenant/Paramedic, and 2 firefighter/paramedics) along with 12 intern firefighters. The department still depends heavily on volunteer firefighters to respond to calls. Cornelius Fire Department uses a 3 platoon system, with the career and interns working a 24/48 schedule.

The City of Cornelius contracts services with the City of Forest Grove for a fire chief.  Today Cornelius and Forest Grove share Forest Grove Fire Chief Jim Geering.
